IF I COULD BE

Down by the creek near the end of day
I sat in the shade as I watched her play.
A little girl the age of two
Hair of blonde and eyes of blue.

Into the water I watched her wade.
I sat and smiled as she laughed and played
And I wondered what I would do
If I could again be a child of two.

I’d laugh and giggle and play with a pet.
Fall in the water and get all wet.
Fill up on candy and fresh ice cream
Then come back again and wade in the stream.

I’d give the day all of my best
Then go to my mom in her arms to rest.
I’d be full of life and have no fears
If I could go back to those precious years.

My thoughts then returned to the spot where I laid
As I heard the water and felt the shade.
The gentle breeze as it blew my hair
And then I realized my Lord was near.

I relaxed contented because I knew
I had the peace of that child of two
Because I could give life all my best
Then go to my Savior’s arms for rest.
